Yo don't need to fill up application form to extend your driving license. All Ethiopians are busy with filling it up but you don't need to.
As long as you are foreigner and don't know Amharic.
When I entered the building, I didn't know where to go and what to do in order to extend my driving license. Then, suddenly a lady at an entrance door came to me and helped me to get application paper.
But she left after giving it to me. Then there was a man around the corner and he filled up my application. I did nothing but watching all of it.
I thought they would ask me money but they didn't. They didn't ask anything. They just did it for me for nothing.
What a wonderful country, Ethiopia.

Can't turn your hobby into a business?
I want to diversify my source of income. I am quite happy with what I have been doing so far, but I just feel like to do more and many other things.
A post by BPlan on How to turn your hobby into a business says that it would be really difficult to make you hobby business as you may shoulder unexpected burdens. It says even if you enjoy doing a particular thing as a hobby, doing it as a business completely change your motive and attention toward it.
In Japanese there is a word called Nariwai. It's like a business as a hobby kind of word describing making ends meet by doing something you like.
If you have some Nariwai kind of hobby like job, not one or two but as many as you can, you life may not be dependent on a particular job-like-hobby, but you can enjoy doing hobby-like-job and each hobby-like-job may sustain your bread on your table.
It sounds too ideal but it worth to try. But I'm not still sure if I can try yet.

So much of care: how can we make it long lasting habit?
My daughter, 18-month old, is willing to take care of others a lot these days. It's a such a big difference from my elder son.
She likes to trim our lovely dog, Halu. Even though she can't do it well, such a willingness to do something for others is really girly to us.
My son has been so naughty and active but I couldn't see such attitudes (of course there was around age of 1 and 2 but not this much extent).
She takes you clothes, shoes, phone and other things you used to carry and put on and ask you to take it even though you don't need it.
How can we encourage her to keep it up!?

Home made pizza with Braai (BBQ) stand
My friend brought pizza stone for Braai stand so we tried!!
We used to make home pizza quite often. My son has been preparing pizza since he was less than 2 years old. And of course crust was made by our Philips Pasta Maker. This makes our life easy and tasty.
My son has also helped me to prepare charcoal for braai (BBQ).
We cooked 3 different tastes and toppings of pizza this time. 1st one with bacon and mushroom with tomato sauce.
The second with fish and zucchini with mayonnaise sauce. The last one with curry and cheese. Unfortunately I forgot to take those pics...
We also enjoyed tomato bacon roll and Vietnamese meat stick, etc. etc. etc...
Life with Cadac braai (BBQ) stand was enriched with pizza stone!

How do you respond to the delay of your flight?
According to City News, Canada and BBC Air Canada diverted original route and
stopped over at Frankfurt on the way to Toronto from Tel Aviv. It’s because
there was threat to life of a dog checked in by the passenger. It is said that passengers showed
positive reactions and understood the situation.
If this happen for Japanese airlines or
majority of passengers were Japanese, I guess it won’t be so. Many people in
the world think Japanese are kind and polite. That might be a quite general
image of Japanese. But are we generous enough to dogs and cats, and even
minorities? This should be a good but a question difficult to answer for
Japanese.
I have seen many posts on social network
and web news that many people complain about crying babies on the flight. Even
on trains there are many people who seem to be so annoyed with kids and babies
crying on trains. It seems Japanese are not so kind and generous to kids and
babies, though parents are not to be blamed even if babies cry in my opinion.
(Is that why birth rate is so decreasing? Maybe not exactly but worth to
examine it someday)
If it’s about a dog, there must be more
harsh reactions in Japan. In Japan about 100,000 dogs have been killed every
year because no one took care of them. People love dogs but they easily
abandoned dogs. Though its number is decreasing (green line is for dogs and
orange is for cats), more than 800 dogs were killed every day. Many NPOs and
civil societies are working hard to reduce such cases, but this is the reality
in Japan.
So I’m just wondering, what if the pilot
was Japanese or airline is Japanese one.
Love towards handmade products: Cloud funding projects by Every Denim
Though I'm writing this post in English, links are all in Japanese...
Every Denim, a company established by brothers, still students of university, has started a new project to raise funds for original denim jeans production.
I love such products made by artisans and craftworkers. I am wearing shoes handmade by artisans in Japan which is so great to wear. I can feel a kind of love intertwined by artisans towards these products.

Serengeti: Experience different world on the earth
It was quite sometime ago, I have been to Serengeti National Park and Ngorongoro National Park in Tanzania with my family.
You'd visit there before you die. It's a truly different world.
As if you come across your neighbors around your home, you can come across lions.
And frequently you can spot their mating.
Though I'm not good at taking photos, somehow it looks great. Because situation is great.
Big five are all around.
Even small ones.
And their guardian.
You may forget breathing and realize what a wonderful world this is!
You can learn a lot if you can come across with good tour guide.
Especially for those who are not so fluent in English, you can depend on Japanese guide who has lots of experiences in Tanzania.

Lasagna
This Pasta Maker makes pasta life much better and enjoyable. We tried lasagna this time!
But it wasn't good for the first time. It was difficult to cook lasagna nicely. We don't know why but lasagna became too crispy and it didn't nice match with white cream and meat sauce. It may take a couple of trial and error to cook it better.

Community tourism: trek in Tigray, Ethiopia
Landlocked Ethiopia has many cultural and natural heritages. If you are interested in community tourism and trekking, I highly recommend community trek in Tigray, Ethiopia.
Take a flight, Ethiopian Airlines, from Addis Ababa to Mekele for about an hour or so, and you can enjoy rural Ethiopia with some visits to ancient historical rock-hew churches.
You can find rocky mountains which look like Ayers Rock in Australia.
I trekked with my family, my son was 4 years old and my daughter was only 8-month. It was really tough to carry baby all the way long. Sometimes, local guide and community members helped us to carry our daughter. My son enjoyed horse riding for the first time.
I was really really hard as we had to climb up rocky hills with baby on our back. But trust me, it worth it. Great view from the top of rocky mountain is so fantastic. Courtesy of local community makes you feel so comfortable and grateful after a long tough trek.
Let me give you some helpful tips.
1. Be ware of chick fleas, ticks and bed bedbugs. You'd better wrap your bag and clothes with plastics to protect it from bugs.
2. Get comfortable, high-quality trekking and hiking shoes. It's really rocky and slippery, and you need to walk literally the whole day depending the course you take.
3. Reconsider what you bring in your backpack before starting off. Of course community guide can load your backpack on a mule if you ask for a help. But you are going to do is waling, walking and walking. Water and foods will be prepared by the community, so it is really advisable to minimize your luggage as much as you can.
One of the most fabulous experience you can expect is local coffee and community foods at community guest house. Beauty of the nature and courtesy of community will definitely make you feel so comfortable and relaxed.

Go away or at least keep distance from company life!!
It is very common to have just one job, especially job at company, and working so hard until late at night. I don't know much about other working culture except that in Japan. But working culture in so called developing country is very eye-opening and there are many things we (at least Japanese) can learn from developing world.
It's a mixture of different job and diversification of sources of income.
It was when I was in Zambia more than 10 years ago, development consultant and government civil servant who worked with me on particular project told me interesting story. One said I have a nice chicken. The other said I have very good organic honey. According to them, they had been running second business to increase their income.
In this 21 century, life isn't so easy as even big companies collapse easily and economic boom will turn around in much shorter span of life. Your salary may not rise as you expected but cost of living is rising everywhere.
What can we do?
The answer I have learnt from my friends in Africa was to diversify source of income. It has another positive aspect in our lives. We can make our hobbies and interesting personal work as a source of income. I hope this blog post is also one of my diversified source of income, at least a few hundred dollars in a few years.
What I am also dreaming is that investing developing world, such as Africa, to provide ethical social business to make things better for ordinary people. I have some rough ideas and still working hard to generate necessary seed money to invest in it in near future.

You can cook dumpling at home from the scratch
Have you ever tasted dampling? I'm sure most of you have tasted. Philips Noodle Maker (Amazon.co.jp) will help you a lot to prepare thin and tasty dumpling sheet like your favorite Chinese restaurant. It is also called Philips Pasta Maker at Amazon.com.
This machine makes long thin dumpling sheet and you need to cut it in a round shape so that you can roll meat and vegetables as you like. It's good for both fried and boiled dumpling.
My kids love it! They ate 6 pieces and more.

日本語やめた、英語でブログだ。島から出ないと始まらない。
世のブロガーと同じことやってもダメだ。もうひとつ別の価値をみつけ、自分なりの生き方を極めるには井の中の蛙じゃダメだ。飛び出そう。
So, I will go out of Japanese world and try to create something similar, hopefully something different and new. I don't know if this is possible but for many people in the world Japanese way of life might be a still eccentric ones. That's why so many foreign tourists visit Japan. This is something I can explore.
My idea is similar to essential principle of farm-to-table. But not meaning produce locally and consume in locality. I intend to share local lively information to your table, wherever it is, so that I can link up different places and people to get together or visit particular places, like Japan.
Though I don't know how much I can make it, I believe it's worth to try.
